The George and Catherine Hatzikonstas Orphanage was established by decree of King Otto in 1853 and was financed by a donation from George Hatzikonstas. It provided six-grade education and a technical preparatory department and initially operated as an orphanage for boys.

The document confirms the excellent conduct of two brothers from Chios. The brothers were admitted to the Orphanage after the Chios Earthquake of 1881 at the expense of A. Syngros and I. Choremis.

It bears the signature of the president Dimitrios Grafiadis and a beautiful seal with the emblem of the institution.
