This Medal was instituted by Prince Philippe of Araucania 2 July 1965. Originaly awarded in 3 classes: gold , silver and bronze.Nowadays only the gold class is awarded. The award is authorised by Auspice Stella , whose President is Baron Raoul de Lavalette.

The medallist is Josette Herber Coeffin.

Araucania was inhabited by the Mapuche tribe , who were never captured by the Spanish. However in 1862 Chile and Argentina launched a combine military invasion and in 1885 occupied Araucania.

Efforts for their independence still go on.
