In 1896, Nikolaos Lavdas (1879-1940) together with his brother Konstantinos Lavdas and Vasilios Mitsou and Georgios Psillas founded a quartet called "Athenian Mandolinata". Their orchestra grew, gained reputation, developed into a complete conservatory and participated in important concerts, including the 1906 Inter-Olympic Games.
