Exceptional and rare coloured aquatint ''West Front of the Great Gate of the Propylaea at Athens'', Plate 10, Scale of 10 feet

Drawing by Edward Dodwell (1767-1832, Irish painter, archaeologist, traveler and writer. He traveled in the early 1800s in Greece. Engraving by Charles Joseph Hullmandel (1789-1850, great lithographic printer and publisher in London. Responsible for numerous technical developments, including color printing).

E.Dodwell, during his many trips to Greece (narratives of which he published in 1819 in the two-volume ''A Classical and Topographical Tour Through Greece''), depicted the Greek world, its monuments and its inhabitants in dozens of watercolors. Printed by Charles Joseph Hullmandel, they were published as individual loose aquatints from 1819 to 1821. A selection of 30 of them was collected in 1821 in a superbly designed work, 'Views in Greece' (by Roswell and Martin).

Has slight damage out of the aquatint.
