He was born in Constantinople in July 1811 and was one of the first students of the Cadet School in 1831. He graduated with the rank of second lieutenant and was assigned to the Artillery. He served for forty-four years and was promoted to the rank of major general.

He completed his broader education abroad and was considered one of the most capable officer teachers. He served as a professor of higher mathematics and fortifications at the Cadet Military School.

He was the first to write a methodical textbook for teaching mathematics.
