Application of Captain G.N. Pontikos to the Court of First Instance of Chios, 30 September 1914, with stamps and seals.

An amazing document with description of impressive events from the captain's perspective. With a charter party of November 1913, he began his journey. Due to a storm, the ship's rudder broke and in order to preserve the goods and the ship itself, the captain made a new rudder from scratch, unfortunately without success. After being left without command for 5 days, the steamship 'Despina Aivatzoglou' under the Ottoman flag appeared and attempted to tow it. After being left without command for a day, the steamship 'Princess Eleana' under the Romanian flag managed to tow the 'Panagia Akathistou' and take her to the port of Rhodes to the Italian authorities. Then the Italian destroyer 'Atlas' towed the ship again and due to bad weather it hit a reef. Finally, the ship was detained in Symi until the situation was settled by the shipowners.
