Konstantinos Ornstein was the son of Bernard Ornstein, Chief Physician of the Greek Army.

Bernard Ornstein (1809-1896), Doctor of Medicine, arrived on January 25, 1833 in Nafplio, following the large retinue of King Otto.

He was naturalized a Greek citizen and enlisted as a military physician in the ranks of the Greek Army.

In the events that followed the dethronement and expulsion of King Otto, he was placed on leave (10 May 1863) by the then Prime Minister Benizelos Rufos (1795-1868) "due to acts contrary to the duty of a Greek officer" (Government Gazette 21/A/4-6-1863) but on 5 December of the same year he was reinstated by King George I to the ranks of the army.

In 1881, Ornstein joined the Greek Army, as head (chief physician) of the Health Service in the operations of occupation and liberation of Thessaly
