With these words, the Nautika Chronika, in its issue of May 15, 1939, welcomed the ocean liner “Nea Hellas” through its pages. The new acquisition of Greek passenger shipping, which was coming to reconnect the motherland with the United States of America, after four years of the blue-and-white ship’s absence from the North American line.

The Goulandris brothers, in December 1938, signed a contract with the Greek state for the resumption of the Piraeus-New York line, while in March 1939 they proceeded to purchase the British passenger ship "Tuscania", which belonged to the Scottish company "Anchor Line" and had been built in 1922. The ship was registered in the birthplace of the Goulandris brothers, Andros, and was renamed "Nea Hellas"
