Panagis Koutalianos Lithograph
Panagis Koutalianos Lithograph
Panagis Koutalianos (1847–1916) was a renowned Greek wrestler of the late 19th century; his life is surrounded by many legends and traditions. Originally a sailor by trade, he took up wrestling, and—thanks to his immense muscular strength—began by participating in matches and giving demonstrations in various ports. He competed across much of the globe, and, according to tradition, he never once suffered a defeat.
"Koutalianos" was a nickname derived from his place of origin. It is suggested that his actual surname was Antoniou, while in the United States, he was known as Antonios Panagis.
An extremely rare lithograph in a vintage frame, measuring 41 x 46.5 cm.
