Elmali (ALMALEE) was located in Propontida 58 km southeast of Constantinople. About 350-360 families, all Greek Orthodox, lived in the village. Most were considered local, except for 4 or 5 who came from Macedonia. Elmali was considered the oldest village in the region and its establishment is believed to date back to the middle of the 15th century, immediately after the Fall of Constantinople.
