Admiral David Beatty, Manolis Kalomiris, May 21, 1919, Military Orchestra and Choir Concert Program

Sir David Beatty was a great Admiral of the British Navy. On May 1, 1919, he was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet (the highest rank in the British Navy). In early May, he visited Athens where he was declared an honorary citizen by the Mayor of Athens. On May 8, at a ceremony in his honor at the palace, King Alexander awarded him the Greek Grand Cross. In the afternoon of the same day, a dinner was held in his honor in Great Britain, on behalf of the Foreign Minister, Mr. Diomedes, with musical accompaniment by the Military Orchestra and Choir under Manolis Kalomiris. (a great musician and composer who in 1917 - 1937, had served as Inspector General of Military Musicians.) The dinner was attended by the English Ambassador, the Minister of Finance Mr. Negrepontis and the Minister of the Navy, Admiral Pavlos Kountouriotis.

It belonged to Ioannis Theophilis (secretary of the Political Bureau of Pavlos Kountouriotis) and bears a faint handwritten note in pencil ''Admiral Beatty''
