Stefanos Kommitas, a Thessalian scholar and cleric, was born in 1762 in Kofou in the Almyros region of Magnesia. He was mainly engaged in teaching and writing works intended for educational purposes. He was a member of the Philiki Eteria but became more widely known from his dispute with Ad. Korais, as he emerged as one of the harshest critics of the Korais positions regarding the linguistic issue.
