25th of March - Academy of Athens - Charles Picard

On March 18, 1926, the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts was founded in Athens. 

(President) Fokion Negris, (Vice-President) Georgios Hatzidakis, (General Secretary) Simos Menardos, (Secretary) Kostis Palamas and (Secretary of Publications) Georgios Drosinis constituted the first presidency of the Academy of Athens.

On March 24, 1926, the presidium of the Academy of Athens took over the Mansion of the great benefactor Simonos Sina.

On March 25, 1926, 105th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, the First Plenary Session of the Academy took place.

The medal of 25 March 1926 of Academy of Athens was given to the French Archaeologist Charles Picard among other prominent personalities.

Charles Picard (1883-1965) was a great, distinguished University Professor and Academician. As an Archaeologist he specialized in Ancient Greece with a rich publications. In the 1920s he was Director of the French School of Athens. Later Professor of Classical Archeology at the Paris School of Letters (1934-1955), Director of the Institute of Art and Archeology (1937-1961), Member of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles Lettres (1932). He is considered to be one of the Greatest Archeologist of all time.
