The Entire Greece...in a Notebook!

Eleni Kaftanzoglou (1872-1937) daughter of Lysandros Kaftanzoglou, the well-known architect of the 19th century and later the wife of Solon Zografou, benefactor of Greece.

In the decade 1888 to 1898, the then young Eleni participated in dances and receptions of ''Famous Houses'' - ''High Society Meetings'' of the time. She had a handmade leather-bound notebook, in which she recorded the receptions she attended. In French, Helen wrote in her notebook the hosts, the list of dances she danced and her cavalier!

At first glance, it looks like an innocent simple girl's notebook, but when you carefully read the names and dates on its pages, things change!! Turns this notebook into a museum-quality testimony of the Social Elite of the time!

For example, the names of Ch. Trikoupis, L. Melas, P. Melas, Negrepontis, Kontostavlos, I. Metaxas, Karapanos, Deligiorgis, D. Kallergis, Al. Mavrokordatos, Prince George, Prince Nicholas and Crown Prince Constantine as knights and/or hosts.
